Previously this town was famous for its mining activities right from the late 19th Century (1877 onwards) until the mid 20th Century (1950) when a wave of violence destroyed all the mines. Shortly after this period Louisville turned ever so gradually into a wonderful residential town.

The fact that the real estate is highly affordable is only one part of the attraction; the other part being that the prices are steadily appreciating. The appreciation index over the last year's prices was about 1%.
